Massachusetts College of Art is an accredited college of art and design. It is both the oldest art school and the only publically funded art school in the United States. The college's Media and Performing Arts Department faces the challenge of responding to the ever-changing landscape of new technologies and their application to art-making.
As a consultant to the Media and Performing Arts Department, I designed and implemented a streaming video solution to be integrated into the department's curriculum. I determined the functional specifications for the system based on requirements gathered from the professors, recommended hardware and software configurations, installed the system, implemented firewall security and developed a custom administration utility. The finished system allows professors to administer course directories, student accounts and files on the server. Other features include integration with a Macintosh client environment, multicast broadcasting and the ability to reflect remote broadcasts.
Fedora Core 4, Perl 5, iptables (firewall), netatalk (AppleTalk/AFP server)
